Your body is sending you signs that it needs a detox

2 min reading time

Your body is an incredibly smart system that constantly communicates with you.

When it accumulates too much “ballast” — whether it’s processed foods, stress, or environmental factors — subtle but persistent signs begin to appear.

The most common signals your body uses to tell you it needs a break and a reboot:

Chronic fatigue and “brain fog”

If you wake up tired in the morning despite getting enough sleep or if you feel like your brain is constantly in a fog, these are often signs of liver overload. When your liver can’t keep up with its cleaning of your blood, it shows in your energy and concentration.

Digestive problems and bloating

Digestion is a mirror of your health. Warning signs include:

• Frequent bloating after meals.

• Irregular bowel movements.

• A feeling of heaviness in the stomach.

Skin changes

When the excretory organs (kidneys, liver) can’t do their job, the body starts to cleanse itself through our largest organ — the skin. This manifests itself as:

• Sudden acne breakouts.

• Itching or eczema.

• A dull, dull complexion.

Unexplained weight gain

If you’re gaining weight, especially around your waist, even though you haven’t changed your diet, it could be a hormonal imbalance caused by toxins in your fat cells.

Strong cravings for sweets or caffeine

A constant need for sugar often means that your blood sugar is unstable or that “bad” bacteria (yeast) that feed on sugar have taken over your gut.

How to start without extreme diets?

Detox doesn’t necessarily mean starving yourself. The best way is to simply take the burden off your body:

• Increase your water intake: Water with fresh lemon in the morning is a classic that works.

• Support your liver: Include bitter vegetables (radicchio, dandelion, artichokes) in your diet.

• Eliminate the “big three”: Try 7 days without added sugar, alcohol and processed white flour.

• Sweat: A sauna or light physical activity will speed up the excretion of substances through the skin.

Important: The body naturally detoxifies itself every day. “Detox” really just means creating the conditions in which it can do its job effectively.
