How to protect your hair and skin from high heat in summer
13.07.2026
Summer brings sun, heat, swimming and lots of time outdoors, but it also poses a big challenge for your skin and hair.
High temperatures, UV rays, sea salt, chlorine and wind can cause dryness, damage and premature aging of the skin and hair.
With proper care, protection and nutrition, we can maintain their health throughout the summer.
Skin protection
Sun protection
The most important way to protect your skin is to regularly use a cream with a protection factor (SPF 30 or SPF 50). Apply the cream 20-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every two hours or after swimming or heavy sweating.
Avoid direct sunlight between 10 am and 4 pm, when solar radiation is strongest. Additional protection is provided by light clothing with long sleeves, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses with UV protection.
Skin care after sun exposure
After sun exposure, gently cleanse the skin and apply moisturizers with aloe vera, panthenol, glycerin or hyaluronic acid, which help restore the skin barrier and reduce the feeling of dryness.
It is recommended to use mild cleansers without aggressive detergents and avoid very hot showers, as they further dry out the skin.
Hair protection
UV rays damage the hair cuticle, making the hair dry, brittle, lack luster and prone to splitting.
Seawater and chlorine additionally remove natural protective oils.
To protect your hair, we recommend:
• wearing a hat or scarf,
• using UV-protective hair products,
• rinsing your hair with fresh water before and after swimming in the sea or pool,
• using mild shampoos and nourishing conditioners,
• applying nourishing oils (argan, jojoba or coconut oil) especially to the ends of your hair,
• limiting the use of a hairdryer, flat iron and curling iron on hot summer days.
It is recommended to use a nourishing hair mask once a week, which restores moisture and improves hair elasticity.
Nutrition for healthy skin and hair
The beauty of your skin and hair begins with a balanced diet.
In the summer, it is important to eat plenty of fresh food rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Recommended foods are:
• seasonal fruits (watermelon, cantaloupe, berries, apricots, peaches),
• vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, leafy greens),
• nuts and seeds,
• oily fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids,
• legumes and whole grains.
Of particular importance are:
• vitamin C for collagen formation,
• vitamin E as an antioxidant,
• beta-carotene, which is found in carrots, apricots and sweet potatoes,
• zinc and selenium for healthy skin and hair,
• omega-3 fatty acids to maintain skin elasticity.
Sufficient hydration
On hot days, the body loses more fluid, so it is recommended to drink at least 2 to 2.5 liters of water per day, and even more during increased physical activity or high temperatures.
Unsweetened teas and fruits and vegetables with a high water content also contribute to hydration.
Additional tips
• Use moisturizers or lotions after sunbathing.
• Avoid aggressive exfoliation immediately after sun exposure.
• Don’t forget to protect your lips with a balm with a protective factor.
• Make sure you get enough sleep, as your skin and hair regenerate at night.
• If you notice significant sunburn or changes to your skin, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
The summer heat requires a little more attention when it comes to skin and hair care.
With regular sun protection, sufficient fluid intake, a balanced diet, gentle care and the use of quality care products, we can prevent dryness, damage and premature aging.
A healthy lifestyle and consistent care are the best basis for beautiful, healthy skin and shiny hair throughout the summer.
