Styling thin hair

2 min reading time

Thin hair has some special characteristics – it’s soft, often less voluminous, and gets greasy quickly. But with a few tricks, you can make it look really great. Here are some tips for styling thin hair:

💇‍♀️ Haircut & Shape

1. Shorter haircuts are your friend

A bob, lob, pixie, or layered cut will give the impression of more volume.

2. Layers

A gentle layered cut adds volume and movement, but not too much – excessive layering can make hair look even thinner.

3. Fringe

A long, airy fringe or curtain-like fringe adds dimension and “fullness” around the face.

🧴 Styling Products

1. Volumizing mousse

Applied to damp hair at the roots, it can be very helpful – it doesn’t weigh down the hair and adds support.

2. Dry shampoo

Not just for refreshing – also for texture and volume, especially at the roots.

3. Lightweight volumizing sprays

Avoid greasy serums and heavy oils – choose lightweight sprays labeled “volumizing” or “thickening”.

🔥 Styling

1. Upside-down blow-dry

Blow dry your hair upside down – this lifts the hair at the roots.

2. Round brush + blow-dry

Great for extra lift at the roots and a fuller look at the ends.

3. Waves with a curling iron or straightener

A gentle wave or curled ends make your hair look thicker.

🧼 Care

1. Volume shampoo & conditioner

Look for silicone-free products that don’t weigh your hair down.

2. Less conditioner, just on the ends

For thin hair, conditioner at the roots means “flushed” volume.

3. Don’t wash too often

Your hair will be healthier if you wash it 1-2 times a week and use dry shampoo in between.
