Autumn diet

2 min reading time

Autumn diet is not only important because of its rich taste, but also has numerous health benefits that prepare us for the colder months.

Why it is important to enjoy seasonal autumn foods.

Strengthening the immune system

In autumn, when the weather cools down, our immune system is more exposed to viruses and colds. Seasonal foods such as pumpkins, apples, pears, figs and grapes are full of vitamins and antioxidants that strengthen our defenses.

For example, pumpkins are rich in vitamins A and C, while autumn cabbage is a rich source of vitamin C.

Sauerkraut and turnips, which are especially popular in Slovenian cuisine, contain many probiotics, which are key to a healthy gut and a strong immune system.

Nutrient richness

Autumn foods are known for their high content of nutrients that warm us up and fill us up.

Chestnuts, walnuts and hazelnuts are excellent sources of healthy fats, proteins and minerals. Root vegetables such as carrots, kohlrabi and parsnips contain a lot of fibre, which helps to regulate digestion.

Mushrooms found in autumn forests are rich in vitamin D and B, which is especially important since there is less sunlight in autumn.

Energy balance

While in summer we often reach for light and refreshing food, autumn brings the need for more nourishing meals.

Dishes such as stews, soups and roasted vegetables give us the energy we need to overcome the fatigue that is characteristic of the transitional period.

Traditional Slovenian dishes such as buckwheat porridge with sauerkraut are an excellent example of a balanced autumn diet that fills us up and warms us up.

Support local producers

By consuming autumn, locally produced food, you support Slovenian farmers and ensure that the food arrives on your plate fresh and full of flavour.

This also reduces the carbon footprint, as food does not need to be transported far. Seasonal food is often more affordable.

In short, a fall diet is not only a culinary delight, but also a strategic choice for your health and well-being.
