Spring cleaning of the body
16.03.2026
Spring cleaning of the body (so-called detox) does not necessarily have to do with strict fasting or expensive preparations.
It’s mainly about making it easier for your body – especially the liver and kidneys – to effectively remove accumulated toxins from the winter.
Natural “cleaners” in the diet
Instead of heavy sauces and processed carbohydrates, include foods that promote detoxification:
• Bitters (Dandelion and Radish): The bitter taste stimulates the secretion of bile, which is key to cleansing the liver.
• Nettles: They act as a strong diuretic (they drain water) and purify the blood. Drink tea made from fresh nettles for 10 days in a row.
• Wild garlic: Cleans the digestive tract and blood vessels. Use it instead of garlic.
• Lemon: A morning glass of lukewarm water with the juice of half a lemon awakens digestion and alkalizes the body.
Hydration is key
Without sufficient water, toxins cannot leave the body.
• Drink 2-2.5 liters of water or unsweetened herbal teas (birch, nettle, dandelion) a day.
• Limit coffee and completely eliminate sugary drinks and alcohol for at least 14 days.
Support your largest organs
Detoxification takes place not only through digestion, but also through the skin and respiratory system:
• Dry skin brushing: Before showering, massage the body with a dry brush in the direction towards the heart. This stimulates the lymphatic system.
• Sauna: Sweating removes heavy metals and impurities.
• Deep breathing: Go into nature and consciously breathe deeply; oxygen is necessary for cellular renewal.
Intermittent Fasting
A simple way to give your digestive system a rest is the 12/12 or 14/10 rule.
• This means that e.g. You don’t eat anything for 14 hours (including sleep), and all food is spread over 10 hours of the day. This allows the body to focus energy on cell renewal instead of digestion.
Sample “detox” day:
When you wake up: lukewarm water with lemon.
Breakfast: Green smoothie (nettles/spinach, apple, flax seeds, water).
Lunch: Whole grains (quinoa or buckwheat) with lots of steamed spring vegetables and dandelion salad.
Snack: A handful of nuts or an apple.
Dinner: Light vegetable soup (e.g. zucchini or chemaž) without cream.
The golden rule:
Don’t forget that spring cleaning the body is also cleaning the head.
In March, the days are longer – take advantage of the afternoons for a walk, reduce screen time and get an extra hour of sleep.
