Acidosis

3 min reading time

Acidosis (also known as metabolic acidosis) is a condition where the pH balance in the body is disrupted, and the body becomes more acidic.

Normal blood pH ranges between 7.35 and 7.45, and if this value drops, the body begins to function in a suboptimal environment.

Excessive acidity of the body can affect many bodily functions and health in general.

Causes of acidosis

Diet:

– Excessive consumption of animal proteins (meat, cheese, eggs).

– Processed carbohydrates (white bread, pasta, sweets).

– Alcohol and caffeine can cause increased acidity.

– Not enough fruits and vegetables (a diet that is not rich enough in alkaline foods).

Stress:

– Chronic stress leads to increased production of acids in the body (e.g. lactic acid).

– Prolonged stress affects cortisol levels, which increases the acidity of the body.

Inadequate hydration:

– Lack of water can reduce the body’s ability to eliminate waste products and acids.

Overweight:

– Obesity is associated with increased acid production in the body, making it more difficult to maintain pH balance.

Diseases:

– Some diseases, such as diabetes, chronic kidney disease, lung disease, and metabolic disorders, can cause acidity.

Symptoms of acidosis

• Fatigue and lack of energy.

• Frequent headaches.

• Muscle weakness, joint pain.

• Poor concentration and mental fogginess.

• Poor digestion (bloating, gas, reflux).

• Skin rashes, acne.

• Breathing problems (shorter and faster breath, feeling short of breath).

How to prevent or reduce acidosis in the body?

Increase your intake of alkaline foods:

– Fruits (e.g. lemons, strawberries, oranges, melons).

– Vegetables (e.g. spinach, kale, broccoli, carrots, cucumbers).

Nuts and seeds (almonds, flaxseeds, chia seeds).

– Alkaline drinks: drinking warm water with lemon and ginger.

Reduce your intake of acidic foods:

– Too much meat, processed foods and sugars increase the acidity of the body.

– Reduce your intake of alcohol, coffee and carbonated drinks.

Increase your water intake:

– Hydration is key to regulating the pH balance and eliminating waste products.

Regular physical activity:

– Exercise stimulates the process of removing waste products from the body and supports a healthy pH balance.

Reduce stress:

– Regular meditation, breathing exercises and yoga are effective in reducing stress and the resulting acidity of the body.

Dietary supplements:

– Alkaline water or pH balancers such as spirulina or chlorella.

– Calcium, magnesium and potassium are minerals that help regulate the pH of the body.

If your body is too acidic, it means that your body’s pH balance is out of balance, which can negatively impact your health.

Diet, lifestyle, and stress management are key factors in preventing acidity.

Regular exercise, eating more alkaline foods, increasing your fluid intake, and reducing acidic foods can help restore your pH balance and improve your overall health.
