Healthy school meals

Healthy school nutrition is crucial for children’s well-being and performance at school. Adequate nutrition helps improve students’ concentration, energy and overall health.
Adherence to the principles can significantly contribute to improving the health and well-being of children and to their success in the school environment.
Variety: Including different types of food ensures that children get a wide range of nutrients. Meals should include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein (meat, fish, eggs, legumes) and dairy products.
Balance: Meals should consist of all food groups in the right proportions. This means that they should contain adequate amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
Less sugar and salt: Avoiding excessive sugar and salt intake is important to prevent obesity, diabetes and other health problems. Instead of sweet drinks, children should drink water or unsweetened teas.
Fresh food: We prefer fresh, unprocessed food over industrially processed products, which often contain too much salt, sugar and unhealthy fats.
Regular meals: It is important that children eat regular meals throughout the day. This includes breakfast, brunch, lunch and, if necessary, an afternoon snack. Breakfast is especially important as it provides energy to start the day.
Hydration: Children should drink enough fluids during the day, especially water. Sugary drinks and carbonated drinks should be avoided.
Learning about healthy eating: Children should learn about the importance of healthy eating, which will encourage them to adopt healthier eating habits in the future as well.
