Hair and Weather

2 min reading time

Hair is highly dependent on weather conditions, as the external environment can affect its condition, texture and shape.

How different weather conditions affect hair and how you can protect it. With proper care, you can maintain healthy and shiny hair regardless of the weather conditions!

HUMID WEATHER (RAIN, FOG, HUMIDITY)

Effect: Humidity causes the hair cuticle to swell, which can lead to frizzy, unruly hair, especially in curly and wavy hair.

Protection:

  • Use anti-frizz serums or oils (e.g. argan oil).
  • Apply waterproof styling products before leaving.
  • Wear headgear (hats or scarves) in rainy weather.

DRY WEATHER (WINTER OR DESERT CLIMATE)

Effect: Cold and dry air can dry out the hair and scalp, leading to breakage and dandruff.

Protection:

  • Use hydrating hair masks regularly.
  • Avoid washing your hair too often – limit to 2-3 times a week.
  • Leave-in conditioners are great for extra hydration.

HEAT (SUMMER AND STRONG SUN)

Impact: UV rays can damage the hair cuticle, causing dry and brittle hair. The salt in the sea and chlorine in swimming pools also worsen the condition of the hair.

Protection:

  • Use sprays with UV protection.
  • Wear hats or scarves to reduce sun exposure.
  • Rinse your hair with fresh water after swimming and use regenerating masks.

WINDY WEATHER

Impact: Wind can cause hair to tangle and break, and dry out the scalp.

Protection:

  • Tie your hair in a bun, bun or ponytail to reduce damage.
  • Apply leave-in conditioners to create an additional protective layer.

TRANSITION PERIODS (AUTUMN AND SPRING)

Impact: Changing temperatures can affect the pH balance of the scalp, leading to increased hair loss.

Protection:

  • Include shampoo and hair strengthening products (e.g. with keratin or biotin).
  • Dry your hair on a low heat to reduce stress due to environmental changes.

GENERAL TIPS:

Hydration: Drink plenty of water and eat foods rich in omega-3 fats.

Regular care: Use appropriate shampoos and conditioners according to the season.

Natural materials: Wear cotton or silk headwear that reduces friction.
