Symptoms that indicate that a bowel and organism cleanse is necessary
16.02.2025

A bowel and organism cleanse is not always necessary, as our body naturally detoxifies itself through the liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and skin.
However, certain symptoms may indicate that the body may need additional support in detoxification or improved digestion.
These symptoms are often the result of poor nutrition, stress, lack of exercise or unhealthy habits.
If symptoms continue for a long time, it is advisable to see a doctor as it may be a sign of more serious problems.
Common symptoms that indicate the need for a bowel and organism cleanse:
Digestive problems:
- Constipation: Chronic constipation may indicate that toxins are trapped in the intestines.
- Bloating: Frequent bloating, gas or a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen.
- Diarrhea: Excessive bowel activity may indicate that the body is trying to eliminate toxins.
- Poor absorption of nutrients: Despite a balanced diet, you have symptoms of deficiency (e.g. fatigue, dry skin).
- Irregular bowel movements: Infrequent bowel movements or a feeling of incomplete emptying.
Skin problems:
- Acne or rashes: The skin is a reflection of the body’s internal state, and liver or intestinal problems often show up on the skin.
- Pale or dry skin: Lack of hydration or a build-up of toxins.
- Eczema, dermatitis or allergic reactions: Associated with an imbalance in the digestive tract.
Chronic fatigue and lack of energy:
- Feeling tired and exhausted despite getting enough sleep.
- Feeling sleepy after meals, which may indicate poor digestion or metabolic problems.
Bad breath or tongue coating:
- Bad breath: May indicate liver problems, digestion or food retention in the intestines.
- White or yellowish coating on the tongue: Often a sign of an imbalance in the gut microbiota or a build-up of toxins.
Weight gain or water retention:
- Difficulty losing weight, despite trying.
- Water retention or a feeling of bloating, especially in the abdomen and legs.
Frequent headaches:
- Chronic headaches or migraines without a clear cause can be a sign of an overworked body.
Low mood and cognitive problems:
- Difficulty concentrating (so-called “brain fog”).
- Increased irritability or depressed mood.
- Anxiety or mood swings, which can be related to an imbalance in the gut microbiota.
Frequent infections and weakened immunity:
- Colds, flu, or other infections occur more frequently, which indicates a weakened immune system (80% of the immune system is located in the gut).
Poor sleep quality:
- Insomnia or restless sleep due to problems with metabolism and detoxification at night.
Excessive cravings for sugar and unhealthy foods:
- Frequent cravings for sweet or fast food can be a sign of an imbalance in the gut bacteria (dysbiosis).
Liver problems:
- Feeling of heaviness in the right side of the abdomen or a feeling of “heat” in this area.
- Yellowish skin or eyes (sign of liver problems).
How to support bowel and body cleansing:
- Increase fiber intake: Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and seeds improve digestion.
- Drink plenty of water: Hydration helps eliminate toxins.
- Probiotics and prebiotics: Eating fermented foods (yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut) supports the gut microbiota.
- Reduce sugar and processed foods: Helps reduce inflammation and strain on the gut.
- Herbal teas: Chamomile, nettle, dandelion, or mint teas can support digestion and the liver.
- Exercise: Regular physical activity improves digestion and stimulates the lymphatic system.
- Establish a routine: Maintain a regular meal and bowel movement schedule.
- Detox occasionally: Eat light foods for a short period of time (e.g. soups, smoothies, cooked vegetables).
