Hair health is an important part of overall well-being, as strong, shiny hair often reflects the balance in the body.
It is crucial to maintain a balance between diet, care and lifestyle. Hair health is not only based on external factors, but also on the overall health of the body.
With proper care and attention, your hair will be stronger, shinier and more resistant to everyday stress.
Balanced diet
Diet is crucial for healthy hair, as hair follicles need nutrients to produce strong and shiny hair.
- Protein: Hair is mainly composed of keratin, a type of protein. Eating enough protein (meat, fish, eggs, legumes, nuts) helps hair grow and repair.
- Omega-3 fatty acids: Found in fish, flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts. Omega-3 acids nourish the scalp and promote healthy hair growth.
- Biotin and B vitamins: Biotin (vitamin B7) and other B vitamins play an important role in hair growth and maintaining its strength. They are found in eggs, nuts, seeds and vegetables.
- Iron: Iron deficiency is one of the most common causes of hair loss, as iron helps supply hair follicles with oxygen. Sources of iron include red meat, spinach, lentils and tofu.
- Vitamin C: Helps with iron absorption and is important for the production of collagen, which supports the structure of hair. Rich sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, berries, peppers and broccoli.
- Zinc and selenium: Minerals that strengthen the scalp and help prevent hair loss. They are found in nuts, seeds, meat and seafood.
Hydration
Hair, like the rest of the body, needs water. Lack of hydration can lead to dry and brittle hair. Drinking water regularly keeps the scalp moisturized and prevents hair breakage.
Proper Hair Care
Proper hair care includes choosing the right shampoo, conditioner, and other hair care products, as well as healthy practices when washing, drying, and styling.
- Gentle washing: Use a mild shampoo that doesn’t strip your scalp of its natural oils. Washing too often can dry out your scalp and hair.
- Conditioner: Always use conditioner to moisturize and protect your hair from damage. Apply conditioner primarily to the ends of your hair, not the scalp.
- Drying and styling: Avoid excessive use of heat tools (hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons), as high heat can damage your hair and make it brittle. If you use heat tools, use a protective hair spray.
- Gentle combing: Wet hair is more fragile, so after washing, gently dry it with a towel and then comb it with a wide-toothed comb to prevent breakage.
Hair Protection
- Sun Protection: UV rays can damage hair and cause dryness and brittleness. Cover your hair with a hat or scarf when you’re out in the sun for long periods of time.
- Avoiding Chemical Treatments: Coloring, perming, and chemical treatments can cause damage. Limit these treatments or look for more natural alternatives if possible.
Scalp Health
A healthy scalp is the foundation for strong, healthy hair. Nourish it with regular massage to stimulate circulation, and avoid products that can clog pores or cause irritation.
- Scalp Oils: Coconut, argan, or castor oil can help keep your scalp moisturized and promote hair growth.
- Scalp Exfoliation: Exfoliating your scalp occasionally can remove dead skin cells and hair product residue, which can promote better circulation and hair growth.
Stress Management
Stress can cause hair loss or worsen problems like dandruff and brittle hair. Practical stress management techniques like meditation, yoga, or regular exercise can help keep your scalp and hair healthy.
Hormonal Balance
Hormonal changes (such as during pregnancy, menopause, or due to medical conditions) can affect hair growth and hair loss. If you notice sudden hair loss, it is recommended to consult a doctor to check your hormonal balance.
Careful Coloring and Treatments
If you color your hair or use chemical treatments, be careful and make sure to choose quality products or see a professional. Overuse of chemicals can cause permanent damage to your hair.
