Taking care of a dry scalp

2 min reading time

Taking care of a dry scalp, especially in the summer, is extremely important, as the combination of heat, sun, salt water and chlorine can make the condition worse.

A dry scalp can cause itching, flaking, discomfort and even hair loss, so it is important to take good care of it.

🔹 Proper care of a dry scalp in the summer

1. Gentle cleansing

• Use mild, moisturizing shampoos, free of sulfates (SLS, SLES), which do not dry out the scalp.

• Shampoo no more than 1-2 times a week to preserve natural oils.

• Avoid hot water – wash your hair with lukewarm or cooler water.

Recommended ingredients in shampoos:

• aloe vera

• panthenol (provitamin B5)

• glycerin

• coconut milk

• oat extract

2. Moisturizing the scalp

• Use a moisturizing mask or scalp conditioner once a week.

• Moisturizing mists or scalp serums specifically formulated for dry skin are also recommended.

3. Scalp oils

• Apply natural oils once a week before washing:

coconut oil

argan oil

jojoba oil

castor oil

• Leave on for at least 30 minutes or overnight (if it’s not too hot).

4. Sun protection

• UV rays dry out the scalp. Protect yourself with:

a hat or scarf

hair spray with UV protection (available at drugstores)

5. Hydrate from within

• Drink plenty of water (at least 2 liters per day in the summer).

• Include foods rich in:

omega-3 (salmon, walnuts, flaxseed)

vitamins A, E and B (avocado, spinach, eggs)

6. Avoid:

• alcohol in hair products (dries out the scalp),

• frequent use of a blow dryer or flat iron without protection,

• scratching – this can further damage sensitive skin.
