Light Summer Meals for More Energy
10.08.2026
When the summer heat hits, we often feel drained and sleepy. The reason is that the body uses a lot of energy to cool itself, and heavy food puts an additional burden on the digestive system.
For more energy without feeling heavy in the stomach, we need meals that combine complex carbohydrates (for stable fuel), light proteins (for satiety and recovery), and healthy fats (for long-lasting energy).
Four simple, refreshing, and energizing recipes that you can prepare in 15 minutes:
1. Mediterranean Salad with Chickpeas and Feta Cheese
Chickpeas are an excellent source of plant-based protein and fiber, which provide stable blood sugar levels and prevent energy drops.
• Ingredients:
1 can of rinsed chickpeas
1 fresh cucumber (diced)
cherry tomatoes (halved)
50 g feta cheese (crumbled)
fresh chopped mint and parsley
Dressing: Juice of half a lemon, 1 tablespoon olive oil, a pinch of salt and pepper
Preparation: Simply mix all the ingredients in a bowl. This salad is even better if you refrigerate it for 10 minutes before serving.
2. Cold Quinoa Power Bowl with Avocado
Quinoa contains all 9 essential amino acids, making it a great and light source of protein in the summer. Avocado provides healthy fats that feed the brain and fight fatigue.
• Ingredients:
1 cup cooked and cooled quinoa (can be cooked in advance)
1/2 avocado (sliced)
1 small grated carrot
handful of baby spinach or arugula
1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds (a great source of magnesium to combat fatigue)
Topping: 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt, mixed with a little lemon and dill
Preparation: Place quinoa in a bowl, top with vegetables, avocado, and seeds, and top with a light yogurt dressing.
3. Refreshing Protein Smoothie “Green Wave”
When it’s too hot to chew, a smoothie is the perfect solution. This combination will hydrate you and give you an instant boost.
• Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup fresh spinach (a source of iron for energy)
1/2 frozen banana (for creamy texture and potassium)
1 heaped tablespoon Greek yogurt or protein powder
1 teaspoon ground flax or chia seeds (omega-3 fatty acids)
A few fresh mint leaves for garnish
Preparation: Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Drink immediately.
4. Tuna and Hummus Summer Wraps
A quick, no-cook lunch or dinner packed with protein and healthy fats.
• Ingredients:
1 whole-wheat tortilla (or a large leaf of romaine lettuce for a lower-carb version)
2 tablespoons hummus (chickpea spread)
1 can of tuna in its own juice (drained)
sliced red pepper (for crunch and vitamin C)
a few lettuce leaves
Preparation: Spread hummus on a tortilla, add tuna, pepper and lettuce. Roll tightly and cut in half.
💡 Three golden tricks for summer energy:
1. Don’t forget the salt: When you sweat, you lose not only water, but also salt (electrolytes). If you’re feeling tired, you can add a pinch of natural sea salt and a few drops of lemon to a glass of water.
2. Magnesium is key: If you’re feeling physically exhausted, include pumpkin seeds, almonds and dark green leafy vegetables in your meals.
3. Eat smaller, more frequent meals: A large meal will divert all the blood to your digestive tract, which will make you sleepy. In the summer, it’s better to eat 4-5 smaller meals a day.
