Hairdressing Etiquette for Clients
23.04.2025
Hairdressing Etiquette for Clients covers basic rules of conduct to ensure a pleasant experience for both you and the hairdresser.
Punctuality
• Arrive at your appointment on time. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, do so as soon as possible – ideally at least 24 hours in advance.
Personal Hygiene
• Arrive with neat, clean hair and scalp, unless the hairdresser expects otherwise (e.g. before colouring). If you are ill, consider rescheduling your appointment to protect the hairdresser and other clients.
Clear Communication
• State your wishes and expectations regarding your hairstyle or hair colour. Be open to advice from your hairdresser, as they are experts in hair styling and care.
• If you have special requirements (e.g. allergies or sensitive scalp), inform your hairdresser in good time.
Respect for the hairdresser
• Be friendly and respectful during your visit.
• Avoid criticising or making inappropriate comments.
• Turn off or silence your phone so as not to disrupt the service.
Sitting Still
• Try to sit still while cutting, coloring or styling your hair, as the hairdresser needs precision.
• Avoid excessive head or body movement unless the hairdresser asks you to cooperate.
Payment and Tipping
• Make sure you have enough money or a valid card with you to pay. If you are satisfied with the service, you can leave a tip as a token of gratitude – this is not mandatory, but is often appreciated.
Cancelling an appointment
• Always inform the salon in good time if you are unable to come. Not showing up without notice is a waste of the hairdresser’s time.
Respecting privacy
• Be discreet – do not ask personal questions unless the hairdresser wants you to.
• Do not reveal sensitive information about yourself or others during the conversation.
