How to take care of your hair and scalp
28.10.2024

Taking care of your hair and scalp is crucial for its health, shine and growth. Proper care helps prevent problems such as dandruff, hair loss, dry or brittle hair, and oily scalp. With regular care tailored to your hair and scalp type, you will improve their health and appearance in the long term.
Washing frequency: Wash your hair according to its type. If you have oily hair, you may need to wash it every day or every other day, while dry hair can be washed 2-3 times a week. Excessive washing can dry out the hair.
Choosing a shampoo: Use a shampoo that suits your hair type (oily, dry, normal, colored). Avoid shampoos that contain sulfates and parabens, as they can dry out the scalp and cause irritation.
Gentle scalp massage: While washing, gently massage the scalp with your fingertips. This stimulates blood circulation and helps remove dead skin cells and impurities.
Conditioner: Use conditioner after every hair wash, as it helps to seal the cuticle and nourish it. Apply it mainly to the ends of the hair, as the scalp can become too oily if you apply the conditioner there as well.
Hair masks: Use a nourishing hair mask once a week. Masks containing ingredients such as coconut oil, argan oil, honey, avocado or aloe vera can deeply moisturize and strengthen hair.
Gentle drying: After washing, dry the hair gently with a towel, do not rub it too hard, as this can damage the hair cuticle and cause breakage.
Avoiding heat: Limit the use of blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons. If you use them, always use heat protection and set the devices to a lower temperature. Natural drying is the best choice.
Regular scalp massage: Scalp massage stimulates blood circulation and promotes hair growth. You can use coconut or argan oil and gently massage it into the scalp before washing.
Dandruff: If you suffer from dandruff, use anti-dandruff shampoos that contain ingredients such as zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, or salicylic acid.
Scalp needs to breathe: Avoid excessive use of heavy styling products that can clog hair follicles and cause scalp problems.
Sun protection: UV rays can damage the hair and scalp. Wear a hat or use hair products that offer UV protection when you are out in the sun for long periods of time.
Protection from cold and wind: In winter, protect your hair from cold and dry air, as this can cause dry and brittle hair. Wear hats made from delicate materials such as cotton or silk.
Getting rid of split ends: To keep your hair healthy and prevent split ends from spreading, trim your ends regularly (about every 6-8 weeks).
Nutrition: Hair needs nutrients to stay strong. Enjoy protein-rich foods, as hair is made up of keratin, which is a protein. Also enjoy vitamin-rich foods such as:
- Vitamin C: Helps with collagen formation and iron absorption (found in citrus fruits, strawberries).
- Vitamin D: Key for hair follicles (found in fish, eggs).
- Biotin (vitamin B7): Strengthens hair (found in nuts, eggs, bananas).
- Iron and zinc: Necessary for healthy hair growth (found in red meat, legumes).
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water, as hydration is key to keeping your hair and scalp moist.
Stress can cause hair loss or scalp problems (such as seborrheic dermatitis). Regular physical activity, meditation or yoga can help you feel better and thus have a positive effect on hair health.
Care:
- Coconut oil: Helps in deeply moisturizing the hair and protecting the hair follicles.
- Egg mask: Eggs are rich in proteins that restore damaged hair.
- Aloe vera: Soothes itchy scalp, nourishes hair and gives it shine.
