Chickpea spread – hummus

Ingredients:

  • 400 g of cooked chickpeas (can also be canned)
  • 2 tablespoons of tahini (sesame paste)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice (to taste)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • water (if necessary for dilution)

 

If you use canned chickpeas, first drain them well and rinse them under cold water.

Put chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, peeled and chopped garlic, olive oil, ground cumin, salt and pepper into a blender or food processor.

Blend until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, gradually add water until the desired texture is achieved.

If necessary, adjust the taste by adding more lemon juice, salt or olive oil.

Transfer the hummus to a serving dish, drizzle with a little olive oil and garnish with whole chickpeas, paprika, chopped parsley or sesame seeds if desired.

Hummus can be served with fresh vegetables, pita bread, crackers or as a sandwich spread.
